Managing Your Website Files with cPanel File Manager

The cPanel File Manager lets you upload, edit, delete and organise your website files directly from your browser – no FTP client needed.

How to Open File Manager

  1. Log in to cPanel
  2. In the Files section, click File Manager

Understanding the Directory Structure

  • public_html – This is your website’s root directory. All files you want accessible on the internet go here.
  • public_html/wp-content – WordPress content folder (themes, plugins, uploads)
  • .htaccess – Server configuration file (hidden by default – use Settings to show hidden files)

How to Upload Files

  1. Navigate to the folder where you want to upload
  2. Click Upload in the toolbar
  3. Drag and drop files or click Select File
  4. Uploaded files appear in your chosen directory automatically

How to Create a New File or Folder

  • Click + File or + Folder in the toolbar
  • Enter the name and click Create

How to Edit a File

  1. Right-click the file and select Edit
  2. Make your changes in the built-in editor
  3. Click Save Changes

How to Show Hidden Files

  1. Click Settings (top right of File Manager)
  2. Check Show Hidden Files (dotfiles)
  3. Click Save

Tip: Compress Files for Bulk Upload

For uploading multiple files, compress them into a .zip file, upload the zip, then right-click it in File Manager and select Extract.
