Creating Subdomains
A subdomain is a prefix added to your main domain (e.g. shop.yourdomain.co.za or blog.yourdomain.co.za). Subdomains can host separate websites or sections of your site.
How to Create a Subdomain
- Log in to cPanel
- In the Domains section, click Subdomains
- Enter the subdomain name (e.g.
shop) - Select the domain from the dropdown
- The document root will be filled in automatically (e.g.
public_html/shop) - Click Create
Uploading Files to Your Subdomain
Upload your subdomain’s files to the document root folder that was created. For example, if your subdomain is shop.yourdomain.co.za, the files go in public_html/shop/.
Installing WordPress on a Subdomain
You can install WordPress on a subdomain just like you would on the main domain. Use Softaculous in cPanel and select the subdomain as the installation location. See our guide: How to Install WordPress.
