What a restaurant website needs

A menu that is real text

Your menu as a web page, not a blurry photo or a PDF download, so it reads well on a phone and Google can see what you serve.

Hours that stay current

Trading hours, public holiday hours and kitchen closing times on every page, easy to change when you adjust them.

Book, order or call

A booking link or request form, links to the delivery apps you use, a WhatsApp button for takeaway orders and click-to-call.

Directions and parking

A map, parking notes and how to find you in a mall or on a busy road, which saves your staff answering the same calls.

Specials and events

A specials page for the weekly deal, live music night or Sunday lunch that you can update yourself in minutes.

Found for “near me” searches

Pages and details that match your Google Business Profile, so you show up when people search for food in your area.

Your menu is the page people came for

Most visitors to a restaurant website open the menu first. A scanned menu or a large PDF is slow on mobile data and impossible to search. We build the menu as an ordinary web page with sections (breakfast, mains, kids, drinks), prices and dietary notes such as vegetarian, vegan, halaal or gluten-free where you can stand behind them. Changing a price is then a two-minute job in the editor instead of a new design file.

If you change menus by season or run separate lunch and dinner menus, each can have its own section, and you can keep a printable version for the tables.

Bookings, takeaways and delivery apps

Delivery platforms bring orders but take a share of each one. Your own website gives regulars a direct way to order: a WhatsApp button for takeaways, a phone number that dials with one tap, or an online order form. For sit-down restaurants we link the booking system you already use or add a booking request form that asks for date, time, number of guests and any special occasion.

Function rooms and group bookings deserve their own page with set menus, minimum numbers and the deposit you ask for. Under the Consumer Protection Act a customer may cancel an advance booking, and a supplier may charge only a reasonable cancellation fee, so state your deposit and cancellation terms clearly before people pay.

Pages a restaurant or café website usually needs

  • Home: what you serve, hours, location and the main button (book, order or call).
  • Menu: every dish with prices, split into sections.
  • Specials and events: weekly deals, live music, quiz nights and holiday menus.
  • Functions: group bookings, set menus and private hire.
  • Gallery: your food, your space and your team, in real photos.
  • About and contact: your story, map, parking and contact details.

Food premises in South Africa need a Certificate of Acceptability from the municipality under the R638 hygiene regulations. That is a matter for your premises, not your website, but if you mention food safety on the site keep it factual. To be found locally, read our guide to setting up your Google Business Profile or see our local SEO plans.

Kevin from web design hosting has been excellent to work with for the last 10 years. He handled the design and hosting of our website for Zeek Gold and made the whole process easy from start to finish. He’s responsive, explains things clearly, and always follows through on what he promises. He built / redesigned our site at zeekgold.co.za, and whenever we’ve needed changes or help, he’s sorted it…

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website for a restaurant cost?

Our packages start at R1,450 once-off for a one-page site with your menu, hours and location. Most restaurants choose 5 pages at R2,950, which covers home, menu, specials, gallery and contact. A year of hosting and a .co.za domain are included.

Can I update the menu and prices myself?

Yes. The menu is ordinary text in the editor, so you can change a price, add a dish or mark something as sold out without paying a developer.

Can customers order online from my website?

Yes. The simplest option is a WhatsApp or phone order button. You can also link to the delivery apps you use, or ask us about an online ordering page with card payments through our ecommerce websites.

Should I put my menu on the website as a PDF?

We advise against it. A PDF is slow to open on a phone, hard to read and harder for search engines to understand. A menu built as a web page loads quickly and can still be printed.

Will my restaurant show up on Google Maps?

The website supports your Google Business Profile with matching name, address, phone number and hours. For ongoing work on map rankings, see our local SEO plans from R2,950 a month.
