Editorial policy
Our blog and help centre exist to answer the questions South African business owners ask us about websites, hosting, domains, email and SEO. This page explains how those guides are made, so you can judge how far to rely on them.
Who writes our guides
Guides are written and maintained by the Web Design Hosting SA team, which has hosted and built websites for South African businesses since 2009. We use AI tools to help with research and first drafts. Every guide is then checked against our live price list and the official sources linked at the end of the guide before it is published or updated.
How we source facts
- Laws and rules, such as POPIA, VAT or domain registration rules, come from the official source: the Act itself, the Information Regulator, SARS or ZADNA.
- How Google works comes from Google Search Central documentation, not from SEO folklore.
- Third-party products, such as payment gateways, couriers and email platforms, are described from the provider's own pages. Their prices and fees change, so check the provider before you sign up.
- Our own prices come from the same price list that our billing system uses, so a guide never quotes a price we do not charge.
What we will not do
- Make up statistics, reviews, testimonials, customer counts, awards or uptime figures.
- Claim results we cannot show, such as guaranteed rankings.
- Hide that we sell the services we write about. Where a guide compares companies and we are one of them, it says so at the top and uses the same criteria for everyone.
Links to our services
Our guides link to our own hosting, web design and SEO services where they are relevant. We do not take payment from other companies to mention or rank them, and we do not use affiliate links.
How we keep guides up to date
We review guides when a price, law or product they mention changes, and on a regular schedule. A guide's "Updated" date only changes when the content genuinely changes, not when we simply re-save it.
Corrections
If you spot something wrong or out of date, email info@webdesignhostingsa.co.za with the page address and what needs fixing. We correct factual errors as soon as we have checked them.
