What an NPO website needs

Registration and governance

NPO number, NPC or trust details, PBO and section 18A status where you hold them, board members and annual reports.

Donate page

Bank details, card or debit order donations through a South African gateway, and international options for donors abroad.

Project and impact stories

Regular updates with real photos and numbers you can back up, which keep donors giving.

Volunteers and partners

Volunteer sign-up, wish lists for goods, and a page that thanks partners and funders.

Funding proposals made easy

A downloadable organisation profile and documents page, so grant makers find what they need quickly.

Careful with beneficiaries

Stories and photos that protect the dignity and privacy of the people you serve, especially children.

Show funders you are compliant

Organisations registered with the NPO Directorate in the Department of Social Development must submit an annual narrative report and financial statements within nine months of their financial year end, or risk deregistration. Funders know this, and many check the NPO register before they give. A documents page with your registration certificate, latest annual report and audited or reviewed financials answers their questions before they ask.

If SARS has approved you as a public benefit organisation with section 18A approval, say so and explain how donors request a receipt. A section 18A receipt must show your SARS reference number and the date the donation was received. Do not imply donations are tax deductible unless you hold that approval.

Donations that actually come in

A donate button that leads to a long bank details page loses people. We build a short donate page with suggested amounts, once-off and monthly options, and payment through a South African gateway such as PayFast or Yoco (see our gateway comparison). Bank details stay on the page for donors who prefer EFT, with a clear reference format so your treasurer can match payments.

Pages an NPO usually needs

  • Home: the problem you work on, where, and one clear way to help.
  • About: history, board, staff and registration details.
  • Programmes: a page per programme with what it does and who it reaches.
  • Impact and news: stories, photos and figures you can verify.
  • Donate and get involved: money, goods, volunteering and corporate partnerships.
  • Documents: annual reports, financial statements, organisation profile.
  • Contact.

We built this structure for The Mumvuri Project, an orphan care charity in Banket, Zimbabwe, which uses its website to tell donors abroad about the children and projects it supports.

Who it is for

  • Registered NPOs and non-profit companies (NPCs)
  • Charitable trusts and foundations
  • Community and faith-based organisations
  • Animal welfare, education and feeding schemes

Kevin from web design hosting has been excellent to work with for the last 10 years. He handled the design and hosting of our website for Zeek Gold and made the whole process easy from start to finish. He’s responsive, explains things clearly, and always follows through on what he promises. He built / redesigned our site at zeekgold.co.za, and whenever we’ve needed changes or help, he’s sorted it…

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website for an NPO cost?

Our packages start at R1,450 once-off for a one-page site. Most NPOs choose 5 or 10 pages, at R2,950 or R4,950, to cover programmes, impact stories, donations and documents. A year of hosting and a .co.za domain are included.

Can people donate online through the website?

Yes. We can add once-off and monthly card donations through a South African payment gateway, plus bank details for EFT. The gateway charges its own transaction fees.

Should we show our NPO number on the website?

Yes. Your NPO number, and PBO and section 18A details if you have them, help donors and funders trust you. Show them exactly as they appear on your certificates.

Can we update news and stories ourselves?

Yes. Every package includes an editor, so staff or volunteers can post updates and photos as projects progress.

Can volunteers sign up through the website?

Yes. We add a volunteer form that asks for availability, skills and contact details, with consent wording, and sends it to your volunteer coordinator. If you work with children, the form can explain your screening steps before anyone starts.

Can donors overseas give through the website?

Yes. We can add an international payment option alongside your South African gateway and show your banking details for foreign transfers.
