What a church website needs

Service times up front

Every service, its language and style, on the home page and in the footer, because this is what most visitors come for.

Where to find you

Address, map, parking, wheelchair access and what to expect on a first visit.

Sermons and livestreams

Embedded YouTube or Facebook livestreams and a sermon archive by series, speaker or date.

Ministries and groups

A page for youth, children’s church, cell groups, outreach and other ministries, each with a contact person.

Giving details

Bank details for tithes and offerings, or a link to an online giving option, shown clearly and safely.

Volunteer-friendly editor

Volunteers can post events and notices in a simple editor, with no developer needed.

Giving, donations and tax receipts

Many congregants now give by EFT or card rather than in the offering bag. We show your bank details or a giving link on a dedicated page, and add a note asking people to use a clear reference. If you want online card payments, see our comparison of PayFast, Yoco and Peach.

Only mention tax-deductible donations if SARS has approved your organisation for section 18A receipts. Public benefit organisation status alone does not make a donation deductible, and approval covers specific public benefit activities, so a church may qualify for an outreach or welfare project but not for general worship. If you are approved, the receipt must carry your SARS reference number, and we can add a short receipt request form.

Pages a church usually needs

  • Home: service times, address and this week’s highlights.
  • Plan your visit: what to expect, children’s church, dress, parking and accessibility.
  • About and beliefs: history, leadership and statement of faith or denomination.
  • Sermons and livestreams.
  • Ministries: youth, kids, cell groups, outreach and care.
  • Events and calendar.
  • Giving.
  • Contact and prayer requests.

Prayer requests and pastoral messages can contain sensitive information, including about religious beliefs and health, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We keep these forms short, send them only to the people who need them and link a privacy policy.

Faith organisations with a wider reach

Some organisations serve members across several countries or languages. We built the global website for MTO Shahmaghsoudi, a school of Islamic Sufism, which presents its teachings, publications and centres to an international audience. Whether you are a single congregation or a network of branches, the structure starts with what a first-time visitor needs to know.

Who it is for

  • Local churches and congregations
  • Church networks with several campuses
  • Ministries, missions and outreach programmes
  • Mosques, temples and other faith organisations

Kevin from web design hosting has been excellent to work with for the last 10 years. He handled the design and hosting of our website for Zeek Gold and made the whole process easy from start to finish. He’s responsive, explains things clearly, and always follows through on what he promises. He built / redesigned our site at zeekgold.co.za, and whenever we’ve needed changes or help, he’s sorted it…

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website for a church cost?

Our packages start at R1,450 once-off for a one-page site with service times, location and contact. Most churches choose 5 or 10 pages, at R2,950 or R4,950, to cover sermons, ministries, events and giving. A year of hosting and a .co.za domain are included.

Can we stream our services on the website?

Yes. We embed your YouTube or Facebook livestream and keep past services in a sermon archive. The video is hosted on those platforms, so it does not slow your website down.

Can people give online?

Yes. We can show bank details, link an online giving service, or add card payments through a South African payment gateway.

Can we show a calendar of events?

Yes. We add an events calendar for services, conferences, youth camps and outreach days, with dates, venues and a registration form where you need numbers. Past events can stay online with photos.

Can volunteers update the website?

Yes. Every package includes an editor, and we can set up separate logins so volunteers can post events without changing the rest of the site.

Should our church use a .co.za or .org.za domain?

Either works. Many churches and non-profits use .org.za. Packages include a .co.za, and we can check other extensions for you. Our guide to choosing a domain name covers the options.
