Best SEO Companies in South Africa (2026)

Illustration Of A Magnifying Glass Over A Ranked List Of Agency Cards With A Rising Bar Chart
by Ryan Botha
November 2, 2026
Blog, SEO Tips

Disclosure: Web Design Hosting SA is one of the companies on this list. We have included it with the same criteria as everyone else.

There is no single best SEO company in South Africa. The right agency depends on your budget, how competitive your market is and whether you want SEO on its own or bundled with ads, CRM work or a new website. A national retailer and a plumber in Benoni need very different partners, and most “top 10” lists ignore that.

So instead of a ranking based on opinion, this guide compares eight South African SEO companies on things you can check yourself: whether SEO is a core service, whether prices or budget bands are published, whether contract terms are stated, and whether they offer AI search optimisation. Every fact below comes from each company’s own website, checked on 2 November 2026.

📋 Key Takeaways

✓Published SEO prices in South Africa on this list range from R350 a month (small business packages) to R35,000 a month (multinational campaigns). Agency retainers that bundle SEO with ads and content start around R22,500 a month.
✓Only a few agencies publish their prices. If an agency will not give a ballpark figure on the first call, ask for one in writing before you go further.
✓Contract length matters as much as price. Some agencies work month to month; others require 3 or 12 months up front.
✓Most of the agencies here now sell AI search optimisation (AEO or GEO). Ask what is actually delivered, not just what it is called.
✓Match the agency to your size: enterprise agencies rarely suit a one-person business, and budget packages will not win a national, highly competitive market.

How We Chose and Compared These Companies

We started with the agencies that appear most often in Google’s results and in other South African SEO round-ups, then kept only companies with a working website that clearly lists SEO as a service. We did not use paid placements, and no company on this list paid to be included.

Each company was assessed on six criteria, using only what it publishes about itself:

1SEO is a core service. Is search a main offering, or one item in a long list?
2Price transparency. Are package prices, starting prices or at least budget bands published on the site?
3Contract terms. Does the site say whether you are locked in, and for how long?
4AI search optimisation. Does the company offer AEO, GEO or similar work for Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and other assistants?
5Verifiable credentials. Partner status, awards or years in business stated on the company’s own site.
6South African presence. Offices or a team based in South Africa.

ℹ️ Important: We have not scored or ranked these companies, because we cannot measure the results they get for their clients. The list is in alphabetical order. Use the “best for” notes to build a shortlist, then ask each agency the questions in the “How to Choose” section below.

South African SEO Companies Compared at a Glance

Company Based in Published pricing Contract terms on site AI search service Best for
Flume Digital Marketing Johannesburg, Cape Town, Amsterdam Budget bands from R30,000 Not stated Not stated Brands wanting full-service marketing

Ruby Digital Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth (plus US and Isle of Man) Budget bands from under R10,000 Not stated Yes (AI SEO and GEO) B2B, SaaS and e-commerce
SEOPros Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and more R10,000 to R35,000/month Not stated Mentions AI visibility Buyers who want a price list first

Web Design Hosting SA South Africa R350 to R750/month Monthly packages Yes (quoted separately) Small businesses on a tight budget
Web SEM Cape Town and Sandton Not published Not stated Yes (AEO and LLM optimisation) SEO plus PPC in one team

“Not stated” means we could not find it on the company’s website. It does not mean the company lacks it, only that you will need to ask.

The 8 SEO Companies in Detail

1. Flume Digital Marketing

Flume describes itself as a full-service digital marketing agency, with SEO offered alongside social media, content marketing, paid media, web development and creative work. Its site lists offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Flume does not publish package prices, but its enquiry form asks for a monthly or project budget, and the lowest band offered is R30,000 to R50,000. That tells you the kind of client it is set up for.

Best for: established brands that want SEO as one part of a bigger, integrated marketing team. Less suited to: small businesses with a budget under R30,000 a month.

2. MO Agency

MO Agency was founded in 2011 and has its head office in Johannesburg, with teams in Cape Town and London and more than 35 specialists. It is a HubSpot Elite Partner, and much of its work is about connecting marketing, sales and CRM systems, with SEO and AEO as part of that.

MO is one of the few agencies here with a public pricing page. Its Digital Marketing Essentials tier starts at R22,500 a month on a 12-month contract and includes SEO, AEO and content. Its broader retainer starts at R45,600 a month with a 3-month minimum. Ad spend is billed separately.

Best for: mid-sized and larger businesses that use, or plan to use, HubSpot. Less suited to: anyone who only needs basic SEO and does not want a 12-month commitment.

3. Rogerwilco

Rogerwilco is a full-service digital agency with teams in South Africa and the UK. SEO and analytics sit alongside strategy, web development, UX, performance marketing and creative. Its site says it has been recognised as the Financial Mail AdFocus Digital Agency of the Year and that it is a certified B Corp.

The client logos on its website include large national brands in finance, retail and education, and its case studies include generative engine optimisation (GEO) work. Rogerwilco does not publish prices.

Best for: large companies that want SEO handled by a big, multi-disciplinary agency. Less suited to: small local businesses.

4. Ruby Digital

Ruby Digital lists offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth, plus Atlanta in the US and Douglas on the Isle of Man. SEO is a lead service, with separate pages for AI SEO and GEO, and for SEO during website migrations. Its about page says it is Premier Verified on Clutch and that it focuses on industries such as SaaS, IT, software and e-commerce.

Ruby does not publish package prices. Its enquiry form starts at a monthly marketing budget of “less than R10,000” and goes up to more than R1 million, so it will at least talk to smaller budgets.

Best for: B2B, tech and e-commerce companies, including those selling internationally. Less suited to: buyers who want a fixed price before the first meeting.

5. SEOPros

SEOPros says it has been building brands since 2010 and lists offices in Cape Town, Sandton, Centurion, Nelspruit, Johannesburg and Pretoria. SEO is its main focus, alongside Google Ads, web design and content.

It publishes a full price list (labelled as its 2025 offering when we checked), based on how many keywords and how wide an area you want to target:

SEOPros package Price per month Stated focus
Local SEO R10,000 Small businesses targeting a local market
Provincial SEO R16,000 SMEs targeting a province
National SEO R20,000 National visibility (20 core keywords)
African SEO R25,000 Expanding across Africa (40 core keywords)
Global SEO R35,000 Multinational companies

Best for: businesses that want to compare a clear price list before talking to anyone. Less suited to: very small businesses, as the entry package is R10,000 a month.

6. Top Click

Top Click only does two things: SEO and Google Ads. Its site says the team has 18 years of experience, that it is a Google Premier Partner and that it does not use junior staff. It also offers AEO for ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.

Two details stand out. Clients work month to month, with no lock-in contract, and the agency offers a free SEO diagnostic before you sign up. Prices are not published, and the site says it works with businesses that have “real budgets”, so expect an agency-level fee.

Best for: businesses already spending on SEO or Google Ads that want a specialist team without a long contract. Less suited to: start-ups with very small budgets.

7. Web Design Hosting SA

That is us. Web Design Hosting SA has served South African clients since 2009, mainly with web hosting, domains and website design. SEO is sold as fixed monthly packages, with prices published in our online store:

Package Price per month What is included
SEOLITE R350 On-page optimisation, keyword analysis, title and meta tag optimisation, Google Analytics setup, sitemap, reporting
SEOBASIC R500 On-page and meta tag optimisation, keyword analysis, Google Analytics setup, sitemap, reporting, plus conversion tracking and link analysis
SEOGOLD R750 Everything in SEOBASIC plus content management, social media integration, Google Places and Google Ads management

We also offer AI search optimisation (AEO and GEO), which is quoted separately. To be fair to readers: our packages are built for small businesses that need the basics done properly at a low monthly cost. A business fighting for national rankings in a crowded market will usually need the bigger content and link-building budgets that the agencies above offer.

Best for: sole traders, start-ups and local businesses that want affordable, ongoing SEO, especially if their website is already hosted with us. Less suited to: large, highly competitive national campaigns.

8. Web SEM

Web SEM (its old WebSEO address now redirects to websem.io) lists offices in Century City, Cape Town and in Sandton. Services cover SEO, Google Ads and other PPC, Google Local, website design and a range of AI search services, including AEO and optimisation for ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity. Its site says it is a Google Ads Premier Partner and shows a Google rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 26 reviews.

Prices are not published.

Best for: Cape Town and Gauteng businesses that want SEO and paid search under one roof. Less suited to: buyers who want a published price list.

How Much Does SEO Cost in South Africa?

Based only on the prices these companies publish, South African SEO falls into three rough bands:

Budget band What it usually buys Examples from this list
Under R1,000 a month Technical and on-page basics, keyword tracking, reporting. Little or no new content or link building. Web Design Hosting SA (R350 to R750)
R10,000 to R35,000 a month A defined keyword set, ongoing content, link building and a dedicated account manager. SEOPros (R10,000 to R35,000), MO Agency (from R22,500)
R30,000+ a month Integrated campaigns where SEO is combined with paid media, CRM, content and creative. Flume (budgets from R30,000), MO Agency retainer (from R45,600)

⚠️ Watch Out: A very low price is not automatically bad, and a high price is not automatically good. What matters is whether the work matches your goal. Ask every agency for a written list of what will be done each month and how progress will be reported.

How to Choose an SEO Company

Before you sign anything, use this checklist. It works whichever company you are talking to, including us. If you want to understand the basics first, our guide on how to improve your website SEO explains what good SEO work looks like.

✓Ask what happens each month. You should get a plain list: pages optimised, content written, technical fixes made, links earned.
✓Ask about the contract. How long is the minimum term, and what is the notice period? Month-to-month is lower risk while you test an agency.
✓Ask who does the work. Is it the senior person you met, a junior, or an outsourced team?
✓Ask how results are reported. Look for rankings, organic traffic and enquiries from Google Search Console and Google Analytics, not just “impressions”.
✓Ask about local SEO. If your customers are nearby, your Google Business Profile matters as much as your website.
✓Ask about AI search. If they sell AEO or GEO, ask exactly what they change on your site and how they check whether AI tools mention you.
✓Walk away from guarantees. No one can guarantee a number 1 position on Google. Google itself warns against companies that promise this.

For local businesses, our local SEO guide for South Africa covers the steps you can take yourself, often before you need an agency at all.

💡 Pro Tip: Google publishes its own advice on hiring an SEO, including the warning signs to look out for. Read the Google Search Central guide before your first agency meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best SEO company in South Africa?

There is no single best one. For large brands, full-service agencies such as Rogerwilco, Flume or MO Agency are built for big integrated campaigns. Specialists such as Top Click and SEOPros focus mainly on search. For small businesses on a tight budget, low-cost monthly packages like ours cover the essentials. Choose based on your budget, market and contract preference.

How much should a small business pay for SEO in South Africa?

Published prices on this list start at R350 a month for basic on-page SEO and reporting, while agency packages with regular content and link building start around R10,000 a month. Many small businesses start with the basics, then increase spend once they can see which keywords bring enquiries.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Most SEO work takes several months to show clear results, and competitive keywords take longer. SEOPros, for example, quotes timelines of 3 to 12 months depending on the package. Be wary of anyone who promises page 1 in a few weeks.

Should I sign a 12-month SEO contract?

Only if you are comfortable with the agency and the price. Longer contracts can come with lower monthly fees or more planning up front, but month-to-month terms let you leave if the work is not delivered. Always read the notice period before signing.

Do I need AI search optimisation as well as SEO?

Strong SEO is still the foundation, because AI tools such as Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT draw on pages that search engines can find and understand. AI search optimisation adds clear answers, structured data and brand mentions on other sites. It is worth asking about, but it does not replace SEO.
